I have had my Coleman compact stove for 29 years. I use it for two to three trips a year and use it every day of each trip (usually 9 or 10 days per trip) to cook big meals on. It is EXACTLY the same as the new model. It has never needed a repair. I just clean it after each camping trip. Coleman fuel is inexpensive and easily found in any part of the US and a gallon of fuel lasts me practically two years. The stove fits perfectly inside a 16 gal rubbermaid container with all of my other cooking gear (including pans). I absolutely recomend this stove. You don’t need one of those fancy complicated other stoves. The basic Coleman stove is a workhorse that doesn’t break down.

I have the Coleman 533- and have used it for 3 years. It is great to have the option of running white gas or unleaded gas through it. This stove works great in the wind, and really puts out some heat. I use it for all camping and fishing! Would not trade it for the world! Great Product!

I too have the Coleman 533 – and have used it for 6 months. It works well and is solidly constructed, and should last for many years.

Have used these little stoves for backpacking and camping for many years. Have never had any problem with one, but I keep giving them to friends. This is the first multifuel one for me, am using it on unleaded gasoline with no problems. Nobody gets this one.

Try the low San Gabriels. Dry, rugged mountains that are a bit further from the cooling ocean breezes. Here, there’s lots of brush, scrub, and chaparral, including plenty of Spanish Bayonets — but some of the canyons shelter beautiful mountain streams and waterfalls. Some of the higher peaks may have tree cover.

The high San Gabriels bring you to a different world. Rocky, rugged and tall, these peaks approach and exceed elevations of 10,000 feet, and often have snow until June or July. When the snow clears, the trails are excellent — shaded, peaceful, and secluded. Pines and cedars grow tall here, and it’s a great place to run when summer temperatures in the city get sweltering.

Backpacking My Coleman Camping Stove with Llamas in Colorado

We were in Colorado’s backcountry, our tent pitched in a stand of Engelmann spruce next to a burbling creek. Our large heap of gear included the rotating and telescoping metal roasting sticks we’d just been using. Ordinarily, we would have scavenged and whittled sticks — if we’d packed marshmallows at all. But we were llama trekking, with furry 325-pound porters to carry our load. So why not?

My husband, Jeff, and I forged our early relationship in the backcountry, cooking black beans over a Coleman camping stove and falling asleep to the chirping of crickets. Since we’d had kids, our weekends were spent car camping, often amid noisy throngs. Now we wanted to venture deeper into the wild, but with three children under 9, the prospect was daunting. Then we heard about the llamas. They carry your gear. You just need to herd the kids.
